Parenting Consultant
A Parenting Consultant (PC) is like a PTE but with broader power and authority, which is usually defined by an agreement for the parties that provides for the PC's appointment. The Court cannot order a PC unless the parties agree to the appointment of a PC. The PC has a wide range of tools available to assist the parents in resolving their parenting conflicts. A PC can order both drug and psychological evaluations as well as individual therapy with or without the children. The consultant will attempt to mediate the dispute between the parties; however if the parties are unable to reach an agreement, the PC will make the final decision after hearing each party's position on the particular issue. The PC's decision is usually binding until overturned by the Court. The PC's communications are not confidential and may testify at Court if needed regarding the nature of the parenting discussions and provide her opinion on any disputed parenting issue.
